Spoiler Tag: (((highlight to read)))
It is a genuine accomplishment to finish a Yoon Suk-ho’s drama. So if you have reached and completed the 20th episode of Spring Waltz, do give yourself a pat on the back. *pat, pat, pat*. As for me, the credit should go to my mom and auntie. They were watching it in my room, and I had no choice but to watch at their own pace. God knows what year I’ll get done if I hadn’t watch it with them. My first(Winter Sonata) and last(Spring Waltz) endless love series are the only ones I’ve successfully completed. Autumn Tale and Summer Scent remains unfinished up until this moment. Neither am I planning to pick them up again unless someone pays me a million dollars…alright, alright, $100 is good enough.
The season dramas are famous for their…good things first: beautiful cinematography, memorable soundtracks (mostly classical), and their ostentatious portrayal of childhood love. The last one mentioned could also be the death of the drama itself. On the other hand, their faults lie on their “endless drag”, the occasional appearance of the pick-up truck, the over-the-top ridiculous twists and the melodrama.
Spring Waltz has some good moments. Episodes 1-11, 14 and the 2nd half of ep20 are the highlights; the rest is JUNK. I’m gonna try and be mild with my comments, because this is actually the best out of PD Yoon’s work. It is a tale about love, forgiveness and hope. It’s sweet and tender like one of those hallmark cards. The foundation of Eun Young and Su ho’s relationship is very strong indeed. I always liked that kid (young Suho/Jaeha) who also appears in the drama, Fashion 70’s as the young Jang-bin. I’ll go even further and say that he is much talented than any of the adult characters in the drama.

“Dad, don’t gooo!!!” – young Su-ho.
The greatest surprise is model-turn-actor Daniel Henney, made famous in My name is Kim Sam Soon. His acting isn’t academy-award level but still better than I have expected. It is funny how his character, Phillip, got a fair amount of camera time, comparable with Jae-ha’s. I wonder if they are sorta campaigning this exquisite bright creature, perfect in every wardrobe he wears. To me, his appearance is overrated. I’d rather credit his acting abilities first. Although, I can’t deny that this drama got more audience viewing thanks to women fangirling over Danny boy.
The prick in the drama, my mom calls her “Miss Tapia”, is Song Lee Na ( Lee Soyon). Such an annoying ugly bitch. I think I’ve uttered “ugly” and “kill” a few thousand times during the drama. Whenever the camera shifts on her face, it always dawns on me how repugnant-looking the witch is. Remember tennis girl from My Girl? A work-of-art, thanks to plastic surgey, but I’d sooner stare at her fabricated face than Miss Tapia’s hideous monkey-ass face. It is disturbing. Another thing that annoyed the heck out of me, is the way she had stuck with her antagonism till the flippin end. Good gracious, give up, okay!!!! Just give up, you dumb woman!!!! There is no trace of originality on the character of Lee Na. She is your typical “other” girl in every kdrama. I wasn’t even satisfied with the way the writer had disclose her part of story. Now, about our main couple. Jae-ha’s expression sometimes bothers me, but he looks his best whenever he smiles. You’ll notice this right away, coz Jae-ha (Seo Doyoung) always has that look of displeasure or sadness…so when he smiles, his whole face brightens up. I just wish he puts on a bit of weight. When he wears thin clothing, you’ll see his skinny frame…my mom described him like a clothes-hanger.
Eun-young (Han Hyoo Joo) …so innocent looking. I think a lot of guys will fall in love with her. She is just super duper ADORABLE. Even I had a crush on her on the first few episodes(no no no, I dont swing the other way). On contrary of saying “ugly-face” on Leena, I can’t stop mumbling “beautiful” whenever I see Eun-young.
These two have a few nice fluffy moments. They look so good together. My only complaint is that I somehow couldn’t connect the young actors to their adult counterparts.

Funny moment

Cute moment
The first revelation which will occur at episode (((episode 14))) is probably the only scene that had almost made me cry. On second thought, I had never shed a single tear during this drama. I cried buckets watching WS and AT, but surprisingly, not in this one. I think I have graduated on PD Yoon’s hundred-ways-to-make-someone-cry-manipulations. Oh yah, the pick up truck will appear twice…but I’m gonna swallow my gripes before I get carried away and destroy this drama for others.
About the JUNK part…well, I call them that, coz it is very clear that they are just trying to stretch and fill up the 20-hour slot by making up uncalled conflicts and complicating matters that would have been resolve by good communication. It is a shame, really. If they kept it within 12-13 episodes…it would have been a better ride for me.
The ending has made me cool down and decided not to bash it too much. It’s a bit stretchy than other korean drama endings, coz they will give you the whole cake PLUS icing. You will definitely like it.
But overall, I don’t think I’ll ever re-watch this drama again. It’s predictability level is about 90%. If you have seen a fair amount of kdramas, you can probably foretell every subsequent turns and twists that’ll happen.
Trivia
This quote appears at the last episode of Spring Waltz
For lovers, the best house is the one built out of each other’s love.”
It originally appears on which of the previous season dramas….?
Answer: (((Winter Sonata)))
One more, take note when Philip punches Jae-ha. I heard the actor Jae-ha, Do-young, has been hospitalized due to the impact of Daniel’s punch. You’ll notice Do-young’s swollen jaw on the following episodes after the punch. He looked really weird and funny.

i’ve watched this drama. either su-ho or jae-ha, i love BOTH! he’s very cool in it. but, pity phillip cos he’s cery nice and great man n friend. anw, i really enjoyed this drama. a big *clap-clap-clap* for the actor especially n the actress too. not forgotten, the drama’s creator.
this drama is like the best one I everseen. I mean i have Winter Sonata, seen Summer Scent, and Autum Love and they all are nice. Except Winter Sonata, I didn’t really like it because they had to make him blind at the end, but yeah, i thought it was a good movie over all. But this….this movie, Spring Waltz, it was the best i seen!!! I mean I was in tears in some sad momments!I never really cry in any movies before, but this one made me cry!!! I haven’t seen the last two parts, but over all it, I LOVE IT!!! I would watch this drama over and over and over again! I mean i usually could predict what happens in the movie and the end, but this one….i can’t predict at all. I mean it’s just unpredictable! I would certainly rate this 9 out of 10!! And the main actors, Jae-Ha and Phillip are soo hot and cute! and the actress, Eun-Young, she is soo adorable and beautiful, i envy her!!! ehehe….but i really like this movie and i think everyone should watch it!
I loved this drama! And yeah, they had stuff that made it drag on, but I liked it. And it was fairly predictable, but it’s still an enjoyable drama.
The ending of this was different from the endings of the other 3 seasons in the series. It was actually a happy one, so the drama left me feeling good. : )
The one thing that has always bothered me when I watched this series (Winter, Autumn, Summer, Spring) was that there were way to many “pretty” scenes. I mean, it comes to a point where all the beautiful camera shots get to be a bit annoying and not as awe-inspiring…
Anyways, I thought I should add this when I read the trivia portion of this post…
- In Episode 18 or 19 (I forget which…), Eun Young says to Jae Ha, “Your sins have been forgiven.” In Autumn Tale, that line is used several times.
does anyone die in the end ? like those really sad endings ?
I loved the drama too and cried like crazy. But did anyone notice the very annoying red blob on Jae-Ha’s left eye when he went to the ‘Green Island’? Wonder wat happened. V. freeky looking, ne?
i love how they flimed the drama, the scenes were very beautiful ^^. It’s my favorite drama now! all the OST songs are in my head. and yes, i’ve had a lot of tears fall from my eyes.
i’d give it a 9/10 [:
**and yess i do wonder wat the “red thingie” was in his eye >
Hmmm… just finished it. Here are my thoughts.
On the plot: I’ve not watched many k-drama love stories so I cannot comment on the predictability of the story line. I will say it was a very satisfying story and held my interest for most of the 20 hours. A good story makes one ponder and this one did. It was generally believable although there are a few logic busters. For example, the prolonged conflicts caused by an unwillingness to communicate seems like an odd premise to me, but I’ve observed the same premise in other Asian dramas so maybe it’s a cultural thing? Since I was watching while reading the English subs I don’t know what nuances I might have missed in Korean. I was a little confused by the first couple of episodes until I realize they were the prologue of the story. The prologue could have been tightened up a bit as it drug just a little. The second half of the series made use of long flashback montages which might have been boring had it not been for the excellent music accompanying them.
On the soundtrack: I actually bought the soundtrack to this film before I even thought about watching it. The Korean vocals are beautiful and the English pop songs are thoughtfully placed throughout the film to reinforce the on screen action. The instrumentals both piano solos and orchestral pieces are beautifully arranged and performed. In fact this film is almost worth watching just for the music alone. For English speakers the lovely arrangement of Clementine was particularly poignant especially as it reinforces the “lost and gone forever” themes and emotions of the story. The Korean translation is not quite the same for this song so I don’t know that it would have the same effect on non-English speakers. The same can be said for the beautiful Korean rendition of David Gates “Lost Without Your Love”. The Korean lyrics did not have the same meaning. I felt the English matched the film action better, but since I “heard” it in my head anyway there was no loss.
On the cinematography: The broad expanses of color in the film were pleasing. The fields of yellow rapeseed and green wheat, the sweeping ocean views of blue, the warm wood tones of the practice room, the jumbled pinks of the vendors stalls in the market, and the stark contrasts of black and white in the concert hall all created imagery that stuck in you mind and brought you back to the feeling of the scene. In the country the movie was often filmed with longer, slower shots which emphased the quite peace the country represented to the characters in the film. The pacing in the film is slower which allowed the reflective montages and beautiful music to work well.
On the actors: This the first time I’ve seen any of these actors perform and to be honest reading subs does interfere with watching the acting. Lee So-yeon does a wonderful job of being petty and spiteful. She prevents us from sympathizing with her sad and hopeless situation. The actress herself quite beautiful and you do get glimpses towards the end of the series, but generally she is able to pull off the pinched, hard, unforgiving look well. Daniel Henney is in an equally sad and hopeless situation and also fails to win our sympathy although I don’t think that was the director’s intent. He delivers his English lines like he’s reading them from a script a sentence at a time. They didn’t flow well which was suprising since English is supposed to be his first language in the film ( and is in real life). Suh Do Young’s interesting facial structure was a bit of a distraction and I spent much the time analyzing the construction of his face. He spent a lot of time crying in the film which made me wonder what he did to go there. He also has a very nice voice. He’s pleasing to listen to even if I don’t understand a word he’s saying. It was interesting to watch Choi Si Won sing and dance. His acting although a small part seemed very relaxed like he was being himself.
I enjoyed watching this series and will probably re-watch sections of it. I’m recommending it to my 16 year old daughter once she finishes Goong.

Kdrama fever!!
i haven’t seen this movie YET…but is planning to soon…i guess minnesota’s just plain SLOWWW….ya know?! well, eun young is so gorgeous! she kinda resembles song hye-gyo (the female lead in autumn love) they’re both so cute…about daniel henney, i would have to say he’s remarkable! he shines my world! he looks like this one celebrity from “my best friend’s wedding” which had came out a LONG time ago! to be frank, i heard seo do young is from G.O.D…someone tell me if it’s correct or not?! he has the most bizarrest yet good-looking eyes ever seen…atfirst, i was like, “oh my god…why did the producer pick such a toothpick over all other better looking korean actors?” then as i RESEARCHED him..(haha) i saw more pictures and went onto YOUTUBE’s broadcast to figure out more and continued digging…YES! I DUGGED HIM! he’s probably one of the hottest koreans i’ve ever seen…YUP! he’s on my LIST!
i really like seo do-young..he’s d cutest guyi’ve ever seen..he has the charm that can catch everybody’s eyes..
i also like his loveteam..they complement each other..eun young is beautiful and lishuhu is handsome..i hope that their loveteam would be in real life..
hi julie
seo do young is not from the band G.O.D. but I believe he appeared in one of G.O.D.’s music videos….
i just finished watching Spring Waltz and it was really good but i think it’s like a combination of the three previous season dramas maybe to put them into one drama so that the previous dramas will be remembered… love it… to the one who played eun young great acting! si-won hope to see him in other dramas… he’s really good… this drama offers you new faces (good-looking and tall lead actor, seo do young’s first lead role i believe, remember him in sea god) (though one actress appeared in all season dramas… love her), excellent acting by all actors, great sceneries, soundtracks and si won hahaha….
This one made me cry, and I hardly cry about a movie or a series. I don’t know, maybe the music has something to do with it. Great Music, and the guy Jae-ha, is he really a pianist? Forgive my ignorance, I really don’t know. But the way he plays the piano, it’s like he’s a master to it. Is he??? If not, then he’s a great actor hehe. And yeah, he can really cry too, he’s the one that made me cry, hehe. But everyone was really great, I just like him more, hehe.
On the first look at the DVD cover, my mind told me this is the best story. Knowing the same director for Winter Sonata, no second thought just grabbed from the bookstore and paid.
Perfect scene, music and actors. Of course the story is complicated but I enjoyed the scenery and music blended. Tears and sympathy is always there. Honestly the best person to look at is ‘Philips’…perfect scripts and characters for him. Others are good too!
One of the best story from the same director. congratulations!
oh my god!!!!! i told to myself after i finished the whole story!!!
what a wonderful story?
awesome!!!!
amazing!!!!
the best!!!!
great job seo do young and han hyo joo for making me wacthed of ur wonderful series.
i know they are new in acting but as a koreanteleviewers i saw their potencial in acting!!!
i see their future in acting category!!!
i’m so happy after i knew that seo do young has recovered after he accidentally hit by daniel henney.but i know daniel henney has no intention to do this……
from now i’m so,so happy even their ratings failed because of this incident!!!!
but i love this series…i learn a lot of this show…..now i’m so inspired to learn how to play piano………thanks for this show…
shock.. i love it…its really nice.. well its kinda sad but.. if i started watching it.. i never pause or stop it.. its really, really, really nice..well for those who did not yet watch it.. go ahead..i promise you.. you will never regret it..^_^ hihi:p
I actually liked this drama. This is my 2nd favorite endless love series next to autumn heart, although i admit there were some draggy parts, the beautiful moment made up for it. I just instantly fell in love at the classical music, bright clothes, beautifu scenery and the two main characters…! It was a pleasant ride.
Can anyone tell me where to find free episodes of Spring Waltz i could only find up until episode 10
If anyone knows plaese reply.
Please…please…would someone tell me where I can rent the DVD of Spring Waltz. Amongst the 4 season, I love Winter Sonata and this next. Saw 3 episodes on line and got hooked on it but now can’t find where to watch the rest of it.
Hi Monette,
If you click the “Download Links” at the top of the page, I have provided a series of methods to watch kdramas on your pc. Try aznv.tv or mysoju.com. I think Spring Waltz should be there.
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.
I can’t seem to find Spring Waltz at aznv.tv and they took it out from mysoju.com due to infringement maybe because the DVD was recently released and may violate licensing.
Is there any other option? Maybe I just don’t know how to navigate aznv.tv but their listing is limited.
Thank you for any other help you can provide.
I checked aznv and they still have it. You have to register and have winamp installed in your pc to be able to stream their videos. I’m sure they have a FAQ somewhere you could read. Or if all fails, there’s still veoh.com and youtube.
I love this drama so much….

The song “one love” can be found in Loveholic’s “Nice Dream” album Happy listening!!!
What can I say about Spring Waltz???? Nice, beautiful, amazing, awesome. I think words cannot describe how beautiful this movie/drama is. I love Korean/Japanese drama and I think Spring Waltz is the best so far. All the four main characters acted so well, Jae Ha and Eun Young are beautiful/handsome, just perfect for each other. Hands down for director Yoon Sukho who took the risk of choosing them to be in the main characters for this movie/drama.
i love the korean series, spring waltz cause it is not a common love story.. its plot is very unique.. i love the characters, the theme song, the setting, etc.
i love this movie very very much………………………..
i love all korean drama in abs cbn promise…………………………………
i love this kdrama so much.
i love the songs.
i love the cast.
i love the story.
i love the romance.
i nearly cried because of this drama!
i love you seo do-young!
this is my inspiration to write a love story.
something that is so dramatic.wonderful.
your my idols!
i rally enjoyed this drama, hope you to enjoyed this too.
its really nice, getting my tear drops, i love the story and the cast, especially the awaited girl in the heart of someone she love……….
this movie is very amazing!
this one is the best!!
i love it so much!!!
its like im in heaven???? atik!
hai…this drama is so beautiful and the cast are really good…
The Drama is awesome for me. Even until the last episode they made a sudden twist, when Jae Ha lost consciousness. People told me that in all the other KDramas that Yoon Suk-Ho made he had people dying in the end. I thought, “oh great, don’t tell me Jae Ha’s gonna die” (in some way).
I really liked the ending. Fulfilling. Just like what it is said here, they gave the cake PLUS the icing. They look really cute together. Sad Jae Ha can’t continue playing the piano. But I guess it was the solution for him to be left alone by media and be able to love peacefully and freely Eun Young.
Eun Young was trying to be happy or to smile even in some of the sad moments. I don’t know if she was told to act so. But hey, she did say smiling is what she always do, didn’t she?
Philip and Lee Na could have been made close to each other, well that’s what I thought that was going to happen. Lee Na wasn’t really bad, she’s just a bit straight-forward with her feelings, just like when she was still young. You can’t blame her. She was also a victim of this situation the Jae Ha’s parents created. I sympathize her. It must have been really heart-breaking to find out that your first love had died 15 years ago already. When everyone had already passed by that moment of grief and pain, yet for you the pain has just began.
One lesson that you could extract in the drama is that communication is very important. If something is not well explained to the other party, misunderstanding will arise. I was so frustrated how Eun Young, Jae Ha, Philip and Lee Na didn’t get along with each other because of miscommunication! Gao!
Anyway, I find the young Eun Young adorable. The young Su-Ho was funny and truly sincere to Eun Young. I smile when I remember the scenes of those two kids smiling and playing together.
The soundtracks are awesome! Well, I really like piano music and wish I could play the piano and be able to play as good as Jae Ha or almost.
All in all, awesome series! Best way to end the Season series. *two thumbs up*
watching this right now. absolutely love it!
they ARE cute together.
thanks for the review
perhaps you shouldn’t say “ugly” too much for leena?
i get pissed at her too. but the actress is rly quite good. the role is just not defined enough.
Hmmmm….i just finish watching the drama series…and it left me taking a deep breath….not that i was bored!’Twas indeed a good drama. Not much of “crying” and “hurting” thing. I like the character of Jaeha, seo do young’s expressions in the movie displayed what a person can turn out to be after loosing its own identity and assuming another person’s character and name. So much bitterness and pain. The the good thing there was, he was able to express his pain thru his music and it also showed that despite his pain, he tried to find love and be happy again. Indeed, Jaeha’s feelings whether he is mad, happy, or hurting, is shown in his music. His world has been music, to which he felt free to express his true self whether he is Jaeha or So hu. HIS PIANO AND MUSIC HAS BEEN HIS SOLE COMFORT. Eun young on the other hand, is a true picture of a person who can find happiness even in little things….a picture of simplicity and loyalty.Despite her own pain, she was still gayly and positive in dealing with this things….Han Hyo Joo is a perfect character as Eun young, has a wonderful smile…Actually, they’re a good match!
Philip and Lee Na???Well, their characters are the exact opposite…Philip the understanding pursuer, and Lee Na, the ever bitchy-bitchy character of unrequited love….and I found it too long in the drama for her to finally realized that she could never control one’s emotion, and love is something that we cant just ask.LOVE is a gift of the Ultimate Being above us…well, maybe just what I’ve realized too after watching spring waltz.I am not in the same situation though…
The best thing a bout this drama is, it did not have the tragic end…and its filled with music….GREAT!!!!
i love this drama even before i started watching it!. the song was just captivating. i am really hooked in this drama series and i am greatly distressed because i cannot download episode 13!. i havent finished this story yet. i love the characters and the people who portray them. korean drama is really a must-see because of its touching, simple and deep expressions of love and hate and everything in between.
oh my gosh! im so addicted to spring waltz. i love seo do young. he is so mysterious and handsome. I cant get enough of him..how he smiles..how he stares how he looks when he is in love..so in love… the story is unique and korean drama can really present a story with such depth…phillip i like also but i find him dry even though handsome…he is boring unlike seo do young who is unpredictable. this movie really rocks it makes you fall in love and feel in love and wishing to be in love and be the girl that seo do young stares at with those oh so longing eyes!
i love the song one love it is so refreshing…but im particularly moved by the song lost without your love by bread. the korean version of the song in the episodes makes the scene so moving and heartbreaking….lost and all alone.. i always thought that i could make it on my own…since u left i hardly make it thru the day…. my tears get in the way… and i got to make you stay….dis song was also sang by regine velasquez.. it really nice..sad and melancholy….you know the movie makes you see how a man loves deeply a woman for no reason but reason alone knows….its like a bond they can not fight.. i cant wait to see the kissing scene… il die watching seo do young kiss with his mysterious eyes and kissable lips …how i wish it was me… oh i can feel his lips! i hope they kiss a lot
try buying the series in dvd with english sub-title. i’m very certain that you will be able to buy it. if not, please let me know. charlene
i really love the spring waltz ever; It’s very romantic story

Answer: (((Winter Sonata)))”
THis drama is stupid. Hate the main actress tho she’s pretty.
Not only she stir up one’s relationship, she created havoc and devastated a best friendship! NO TUMBS UP for this movie.
BTW the main actress plays such pathetic and useless person.
i love this drama! i really thought that Eun Young will die in teh end. hahahah! but some scenes made me cry… i love Jae Ha…. ^_^
this drama so romance…. seo do young too handsome
This movie is awesome…Jae Ha(Lee So Ho)he’s super cool…i’d cried a lot…it’s sad,but it’s a very wonderful story…!!!GAMHATEH!!!~

SPRING WALTZ….
well…. I really like Han Hyoo Joo…she’s so adorable, makes my problems disappear…even though she was hesitated to take other dramas because of what happened to that “spring waltz” drama that never really catched the heart of kOrEa, she is still a big discovery, I wish her luCk….I wish i could meet her., and for the rest of the cast, goodjOb… well atleast it is still a good drama after all, u’v done ur parT……LOVE U HAN HYOO JOO
Can anyone please tell me where can I find the piano music sheet for Spring Waltz. I am a pianist and I would love to have the music but I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks
I absolutely fall in love with Seo-do-young. He is so handsome or beyond words to describe how beautiful he is. Such a great performance combined with everything about him make him a perfect person for this role.
first of all sorry for my bad english.here we go:
i’m so sorry for this kdrama. some episodes are soooooo good, but other episodes will ruin the whole drama. if this was a 10 episodes drama,it would have been considered a god damn classic!
Good episodes in this drama: 1 2 3 4 5 9 10 13 14(best scene here,the only one that made me cry)and 20.Nothing more.Rest of the episodes are pure GARBAGE.
the adult eun young can’t act!!! she ruined the drama.
The first episodes were so good, thanks to the kids, they were soo adorable!!!
i really am so sorry for the director…this drama could have been one of the best kdramas ever made,if it wasn’t for those stupid dragging episodes.too bad
WINTER SONATA IS GREAT BTW!!!!THE BEST!!
AUTUMN TALE was bad,but at least it made me cry (so at least this is to apreciate)
SUMMER SCENT is one of the worst kdramas ever made.
ok i’ll admit. Now that i’m revewing the eps,i can say that 18 and 19 were good too
I love spring waltz mainly because of han hyo joo! she is so good in Shinning inheritance.. she so beautiful.. out of 4 endless love series, this series is the best. i cant even finish watchng Winter sonata and summer scents. Autum tale is good too!!
I’m so happy watching this nice drama….. i really really like this drama…….I’m fallin’ inlove again
