Goddamn! Now, I want to rewrite my previous IWGP post after watching the special. Three years had passed; the Ikebukuro gang returns.
And the first thing that had struck me was Makoto’s clean and clear skin! It was shiny and so smooth even during close-up shots. Proactiv works. Okay, okayy…I’m kidding. I could care less about his skin transformation. As a matter of fact, the acne is like a wake-up call for me; Nagase Tomoya is normal – he gets pimples. Yay!
Alright, enough about that. The episode starts off with a brand new case: SOUP.

- Homeless people are getting hammered from toe to head.
- A famous punk/rock band called Raizu is in town.
- The G-Boys and the Black Boys (I forgot what they’re called, the gang with the ballerina leader?) are having a Ramen Showdown.
Now, you solve the case.
That’s all I can give you folks…I ain’t spoiling anything, except for the Kisarazu Cameo. When Uchi appeared followed by the Kisarazu cats chanting “Nya, nya, nya, nya. Sunshine~” that’s when the suspense and excitement started. Oh my gosh, I miss the Cats.

Of course, how can we forget about the King? They tell us he is traveling the world searching for the ultimate soup base. Last time they heard, he was in Africa. Don’t worry, boys and girls. He will appear.

I was waiting almost the entire episode for his appearance. Good thing, the plot started to pick up towards the end that I forgot about him for one second, only one second. During his absence, Makoto was quite impressive, if I say so. Watching him here, makes me want to change what I’ve wrote previously in my IWGP entry. When he yelled “Bukuro saiko!” I was reminded by the ending of Tiger and Dragon. It was fulfilling. But I still hate those kids from the audience. What a bunch of sickos.
Bottom line…this is definitely worth the time if you are a big IWGP fan. The Soup case is better than half the cases from the regular episodes. One glitch that was bothering me was the scene where the Ramen-ossan was caught hammering “chicken bones”. Chicken Bones? Hell, no! Cow or a pig, sure. But there’s no frickin’ way that those are chicken bones.
