I seldom ever watch filipino movies, or John Lloyd Cruz’s movies for that matter. But I accidentally saw the trailer for his movie, “One More Chance” last year. It practically moved me to tears. Just the trailer, can you believe it? (but filipino movie trailers are sort of mini-movies. They show you the whole thing.)
“She loved me at my worst, you had me at my best”
and the part where the girl begged him to take her back…oh my, sniff sniff…This kind of cheese triggers the sentimental-hopeless-romantic-idiot in me.
Since then I started to check if the DVD is out every second week, and today, I finally got a hold of the torrent. (thank you to Wingtip for uploading!)
I was still apprehensive and expected it to suck. But nah…it did not (at least to my standards. If I could watch a filipino movie from start to finish, then I consider that good). What the trailer brought, the movie extended. It’s corny and classic filipino romance development, dialogue-driven, but mannnn it is sooo good. I probably sniffed half the whole time. It is the ultimate break-up movie. If you can stand the trailer and feel even a teeny beety weety something out of it, then give it a shot. English subs are included.
As for me, it’s kinda nice to watch something in my computer without looking at the bottom part of my screen.
The girl, this is the first time I’ve seen her…wait, is this Bea Alonzo? Oh, it is…then I’ve seen her in Dreamboy with Piolo Pascual…talk about torture! Anyway, I just thought, if Judy Ann Santos ever succeeded on losing half her weight, then she’ll resemble Bea. Although, I think Judy looked more than good enough in Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo. And to John Lloyd (as Popoy), ah you’ve done well. You were a good pathetic and pitiful sap. You gave me a run for my table-side tissues. Bea and John are the Jolina-Marvin, Juday-Wowie, or Angelu-Bobby of my time. Sometimes, I really miss watching filipino movies and not getting annoyed with them. As I grow up (symbolically speaking, that is…unfortunately, I’ve stopped growing after one past five), dark rooms become less scary and pinoy chick flicks become more unwatchable.
One question: why the heck do they always give the main stars such crappy names?
Oh, I also saw 27 dresses last Thurday …except for one typical corny scene…I thought the movie was good (as a chick flick, that is). James Marsden was terrific in it. The bantering between him and Katherine Heigl is on spot and exudes a bit of wit even. Go watch it! I saw it on Valentines Day with best friend and sister…haha, sad? nahhh uh…Funny though…there’s a long line in the movies and 99.9% are couples holding hands.
We couldn’t help but whisper bad jokes and poke fun about them. Typical singles eh.
And I am not feeling wistful at all.
I’M NOT!
Okay…that’s too obvious.
Really, I’m not.
As for me, it’s kinda nice to watch something in my computer without looking at the bottom part of my screen.
I agree
I don’t like Filipino movies that much too because personally I think they’re too corny and predictable. Asian (Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean) movies are still the best ones for me. But I loved this film
It made me cry. I think the script is well-written and John Lloyd Cruz is really a good actor XD I like the supporting cast as well..
I hope we will have more Pinoy movies as good as this
Just came across your blog and I love it!
Yoli: Thank you. Just visited your blog and may I just say your kids are as beautiful as their names…Salome y Cael…love love love the names!
“why the heck do they always give the main stars such crappy names?”
The name ‘Basha’ happens to be the name of the daughter of one of the producers. (I looked it up.) So I guess they did it as a favor to her, she did produce the movie, after all. But I completely agree with you. Their names are crap. DX
(In the first place, why’d she name her daughter “Basha”?! The nickname “Bash” sounds like a wrestler name! >:P Hehe.)
When this was showing in the Philippines, it was all the talk of the town. It is like every office had its movie for its movie night this one. Well, it is a “little” bit different from your average Filipino movie fluff and audiences including I gladly accepted it. Though, the really good love story movies (either feel good or full of sexual tension heheeh) are really indies. One such movie made a box office screening, it was ENDO. But alas, I was unemployed at that time and was not able to catch it in theaters. If you want to watch movies or even soaps from the Philippines, my friends say just scour youtube. It is bound to be there.
You’re right…they’re all on youtube now. I caught a few episodes of the tagalog Hana Kimis on youtube but it was kinda hard searching for them coz the uploader changed the titles to “Hanep Kami” and “Hayan na Kami”. haha, smart titles…I forgot which one is ABSCBN’s or GMA’s.
ABS-Taiwan, GMA-Japan. And I’m so pissed that ABS claims Hana Kimi Taiwan to be the “Original Hana Kimi.” Grrrrh >:S i just can’t get over it!
you forgot to addd
….and you choose to break my heart
HUHUHUHU. You made me watch the movie. Good thing there’s crunchyroll.com for quick streaming.
I SO HATE BEA’S CHARACTER here.
You had me at “She loved me at my worst, you had me at my best”. Sige, hahanapin ko rin ito….
I watched it on crunchyroll too! And it’s all because of your post that led me to watch it and I must say I enjoyed it very much… I don’t understand tagalog but some people do in Sabah… Thanks for the recommendation. I’d almost lost all hope on filipino movies after watching a jericho rosales movie about magical glowing mangoes (cheesiest ever!).
i don’t agree with Mayumi.. there are only a few east asian movies/series i like..
I really like the movie One More CHance. John Lloyd and Bea are such good actors. I cried a lot, I was touched by the scenes and the scripts. I even loved them with MSKM ! better than the second but they really made a good job.
i think this is one of JLC and Bea’s best collaboration together…the theme is more mature compare to their early works (although i find “Now That I found You” pretty cute).
