As a D-addict:
I watch mostly Korean and Japanese Dramas. Some anime and very little Taiwanese Dramas. Even with the birth of media streaming, I still download and burn everything in DVD-Rs. If you want to know how I organize my dramas, click here.
I use mplayer in my Mac and mediaplayer in my Windows Vista. The cheapest and stress-free way to watch your dramas on TV without having to hardsub or go through the hell of figuring out virtualdub is buying yourself a Western Digital Media Player.
I barely watch American TV. In fact, I should cancel my satellite subscription.
As a CASB student and aspiring struggling Chartered Accountant to-be:
I have never planned to be an accountant. Ever.
If I win the lotto, I would definitely submit my resignation and choose another career path. Unfortunately, I don’t buy lotto tickets, so I guess I’ll be stuck in this cubicle doing rich people’s taxes forever and ever. God, what a depressing thought.
Actually, I don’t hate this job because of the work load or the people. I hate it because of CASB, and more importantly, I hate it because I’m not accountant material.
Hi, this isn’t related to this post but I just want to ask if you’ve watched the Taiwanese drama, Mars (Vic Zhou and Barbie Xu). I’ve read almost all your dorama reviews (lol stalker
) and although we have different tastes in some dramas, I enjoy reading your posts so much. So if ever you’ve watched Mars, I just want to ask what you think about my favorite drama and hopefully someday (if you have the time, that is
) you’ll also make a review about it XD Thanks
Eh? really. You’re a good sport huh. Even I am getting sick of myself bashing twdramas, but thank you for not lashing back. I think I remember you from my Hana Kimi entry – a fan of Ella, right? Anyways, I have heard SO many great reviews on Mars. Dark, low-budget but hella good, they say. I could faintly remember watching episode 1, three years ago but I was having troubles dl-ing the rest so I haven’t bothered to continue it. One of these days, I will download it…and if it’s indeed your fave (more than ISWAK, really?) then hopefully, I can write a decent twdrama entry for once.
Hehe yep I commented on your Hana Kimi entry before XD And yes I’m a fan of Ella (not as an actress but as a singer
) but I ADORE Barbie Xu more. I think there are some (err.. many?) not-so-good twdramas too. And I actually prefer japanese dramas like Hotaru no Hikari and HanaDan over taiwanese ones XD ISWAK is my favorite twdrama after Mars because it’s full of cuteness while Mars is dark and angsty XD It has some cute/ happy moments though
If you’re interested, there’s a nice review of the drama here.
^_^
Thanks…I’ll check it out, I promise!
I would like to inform you that the Philippines is beginning to adapt hit Kdramas that have aired here. It somehow follows what some southeast Asian country did with My Girl. Of course, it is again the fight between the two colossal networks with Abs redoing My Girl and GMA coming up with their version of My lovely Sam soon. GMA actually did this already with the Mexican soap hit Marimar. ABS will have the annoying Kim Tui as the lead heroine while Gong Chan will be played by the lacking in talent Sam Milby. On GMA side, casting is still sketchy but I think its Regine Velasquez as Sam Soon.
About my thoughts on GMA’s adaptation with Marimar, they did not do anything with it. Its really like just retelling the script with Filipino actors and stuff. They did not put any new spin that would bring life to the thing. They even imported the South African Turban wearing Corazon. It’s so illogical. Would you find a big black woman in the Philippines sporting a turban with some fruits it in and speaks a weird accented Filipino in the Philippines?
I fear for these adaptations. They just might be carbon copies and would not give justice to the stories. Well, they are just really fluff and all but things done haphazardly and without sincerity insult the intellect IMHO.
I’ve seen that girl, Kim Tui?Chiu? After watching the movie with Bea and John Lloyd, my faith on Phil movies increased a little so I went and download another chick flick. I think the movie is “I’ve fallen for you” I should have taken the title as a warning…after five minutes into it, I was gurgling in disgust. Filipino movies are off limits again. But Regine Velasquez as Kim Sam Soon? I would definitely wanna watch that!
Hello, this is well out of topic but I want your opinion on this one. The only recent food drama that catched my fancy is Bambino. I am apprehensive though because it has YamaPi and MatsuJun in it at the same time. What are your thoughts? I can easily get Bambino because it has been ever present in the shelves of the media pirates I frequent. As far as food renzoku dorama is concerned, I am waiting for Osen coming this next dorama season. I hope someone will take it up as a fansubbing project because I find it hard to listen in Japanese these days
Bambino only has MatsuJun. I’m not jumping up and down (sorry, I am watching too much American Idol, lol)…and MatsuJun’s character is really annoying in this one…argh, I don’t know. This is NOT the first food drama I’ll recommend…but if you’re buying it for a cheap price, what would you lose?
Hehe. I like your tastes!
Btw are the boxes in the header your’s? I’m looking to reorganize and they look………neat. XD
ah we almost like the same anime and drama! lol I see but almost everyone who love kdrama always have coffee prince down. anyways the “road to otakuness” collies i like that i guess i am getting there too or maybe i am there ^__^
strawberryhigh: Thanks…the boxes I got from a craft store but they are photo boxes not cd boxes…I’m sure you’ll find some for CDs.
nicedream12: I should have it down huh, Coffee Prince. I should.
Oh you changed your header! Eita!! Hehehe…I loved your previous one too, the “Korean Vogue girl”.
Uhmm jaycee05 coffee prince is just like all your Kdrama love comedies that started off nice then halfway it becomes a train wreck. Well not really much of a train wreck.
Well, im into BL manga now and I see coffee prince as an attempt at capturing BL into the drama screen. Well, it is not that an excellent job as it is but passable. The only thing that will surprise you is how they end this. Many people are also shocked at how the writers pulled of the end of the 2nd to the last episode into the start of the last one.
Well go give it a try and see for yourself how it may fare for you. Me, it was a nice distraction as I wait for the better Jdoramas.
Oh, you mean Coffee Prince? I’ve seen it. I was just saying that maybe I should put it under my favorite list (to humor others), but I refused to. I’m still anti-Yoon Eun Hye. CF is still not enough to make me a fan of hers. Aw, now you’ve made me mean…I was trying to avoid putting down CF.
ah! thank you for liking the headers, i never knew that anyone ever paid attention. anyways i see u don’t like yoon eun hye… well no question for that. I love the concept of your header, half half lol. and I totally agree with maakusutipeen, the first paragraph she is soo right!
^lol…It could also mean I am an ignoramus when it comes to photoshop. Thanks, anyway. hehe.
Hehehe oh I got confused a bit there. But really, Coffee Prince was not bad. I was not good either. But it did top everyone’s list last year
Honestly, when I first saw all of it I really got confused as to why people are really liking it. Then, it got me thinking that it just wants to tap into the BL feeling that is very famous among East Asian girls (this is yet another of life’s greatest mysteries).
Now that I have read quite a lot of BL stories, I can say that it was a poor attempt. Well there are not much really good BL stories out there anyway. But in retrospect, it wasn’t much solid writing. But I kudos the main pair for doing quite a charming job at it.
THANKYOU! Ive been searching for someone who has watched a similar amount of drama to me, to give me a recommendation for AGES! Ive watched over 100 Jdramas, and am finding looking for good ones to watch kind of difficult ne? Im sure you know the feeling. Drop me a line if you ever need me to return the favour or anything.
Thank you for the nice offer. I’ll keep that in mind =)
just wanna say hi… kinda neat that we hv quite similar taste..
hello to you too! Thanks for visiting!
Hi~ have you watched ISWAK 2? XD I’ve been visiting your blog every now and then (btw, I’m that *mayumi*, I finally made a wordpress blog XD) when I need a drama to watch.. I’ve watched a lot of dramas but I’ve only watched 4 of the jdramas listed *above* DDD:
Ah, there you are. I was reminded of you the other week when one of the senseis in a jdrama is named “Mayumi”. Cool, I thought…I wonder though if you were thinking of the tagalog word when you picked it…
I saw a few episodes of ISWAK 2…and I didn’t like it as much as the first one, so I thought I’ll stop before it ruins part 1 for me.
I like the name Mayumi because it can be a Japanese or a Filipina name
I like how it sounds XD~ Hehe.
I think ISWAK 1 is better too, and the ending was just perfect so I thought I wouldn’t lose anything if I didn’t watch part 2. Maybe I’ll continue watching it next time though.
Hey man,
I’ve been working at small firms for the past year or so. I just passed the SOA and I’m studying hard for the UFE. Don’t worry about all the small stuff.
There are going to be a lot of things you won’t get right away. Here are some things i wish I knew before I started though.
Always make sure your opening retained earnings matches your closing retained earnings from the prior year. This is huge! Do not overlook this. If you do, you will complete the whole file, your balance sheet won’t balance and it will be hell trying to figure out why.
When you don’t know how to do something do not ask your partner. I cannot stress this enough. They are busy enough doing things that are important. If you have a simple question ask another staff person. And try to ask different people each time. You don’t want to annoy the same person over and over.
If you ask someone for help, you will often here them say, “look at last years file.” This will piss you off. You will have to look at last years file, probably not understand it and sit around for an hour freaking out because you don’t know what to do. Don’t worry about it. Honestly, everyone goes through it. Best thing to do is to go through last year’s file first, then ask for help.
Being right isn’t as important as understanding what you are doing. Once you hand in a file, someone else will review it. Even if you have done it correctly, if you can’t explain your work it’s pretty much useless. Try having another coworker look your stuff over. If it makes sense to them, then hand it in.
Keep in mind, I’m pretty new to this whole scene too. This stuff has worked for me, but you may have to tweak what I’ve said a bit to fit your situation.
Best of luck,
Brennan
Hey Brennan,
Thanks for visiting and leaving those pointers.
Retained earnings: Tell me about it!!! I wasn’t really directly taught about this until one of the staff people kept telling me, how’s your R/E…check out your R/E…but yes, this is very important. At one time, I spent a day and a half trying to reconcile the R/E with the client’s books…most frustrating day ever.
Asking the Partner: Our trainer drove the nail about this one. Client contact is also a touchy subject in our firm. Most of the partners want to contact the client themselves. So what I do is write all my questions for both client and partner as I go along and then ask at the very last. As for asking different staff each time, too late for that..haha…well, our trainer was assigned especially to help us out. Hopefully, she’s not pissed off with us yet.
Being able to explain what you did: Ah, wise words you have there. Happens all the time to me. It totally made sense when I did the file, but when it comes to the point of explaining, my mind is as blank as a white board. It gets confusing especially when you’re doing 3-5 files at the same time. I feel like I want to compartmentalize my brain or something.
But anyway, it has gotten a bit better since that first hell of a week. hehe. Thanks for the pointers and good luck with the UFE!!!! I’ll save your email for desperate measures (hope you don’t mind).
Hey Jaycee, just thought I would recommend you this dorama called Shibatora. Have you watched it? I skipped the drama thinking it was going to be a run-of-the-mill young police detective show but it has turned out to be quite a surprise. Only started watching after my friend told me that Naohito Fujiki is in it, and that he’s quite a chamelon here. And the first 2 eps haven’t disappointed me.
It’s like a mixture of GTO/detective story – mix of serious and comedic moments are excellent.
HI SL,
I did watch it –>

Hey jaycee,
What is CASB? And why are you doing it if you hate it so much?
And we so totally have the same taste in dramas. Buzzer Beat and Queen Seon Duk are my addictions this summer season. But you haven’t posted up anything about them yet. Anyways, what are you planning to watch next season?
Wow, my manager let us contact the client as much as we wanted!!
Anyway, its nice to see a CASB student + K-drama addict just like me!!! I miss my k-dramas sooooo much and I wish I could spend a 16 or 32 hour marathon on them again
But I quit CASB and am doing CGA instead. I hated audit and I end up the same as a CGA anyway.
